Gros Islet, St Lucia: Glenn Maxwell turned in a batting masterclass, smashing a century to lead Australia to a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over West Indies in the second T20I on Saturday.
Chasing 172, Australia rode Maxwell’s 103 off 51 balls to reach the target with 13 balls to spare. The right-hander, who became the first Australian to score a T20I century against West Indies, hit 10 fours and four sixes in his whirlwind knock.
Maxwell’s century was his fourth in T20Is, the most by any batsman in the format. He surpassed Chris Gayle, who has three centuries to his name.
The Australian opener started cautiously, but soon found his groove, taking on the West Indies bowlers with disdain. He reached his fifty off 32 balls and then accelerated, bringing up his century in just 45 deliveries.
